Medina County Historical Markers
This is a partial list of "County" historical markers placed by the Medina County Historical Commission.
1. 1985 County Historical Area, includes the Moore Family Cemetery, Rock Battleground, and Fort Ewell Road Located at the intersection of SH 173 S. and CR 773, one mile southeast of IH 35 near Devine.
2. 1989 Charco De La Pita Located on SH 173 N. under large oak trees near Keller Park and the Francisco Creek, two miles Northwest of Devine.
3. 1990 Saint Dominic Cemetery Located in Old D’Hanis near St. Dominic church, at the corner of CR 5226 and CR 5230, one mile southeast of D’Hanis.
4. 1994 Last Person Killed By Indians in Medina County Located at the intersection of SH 173 and Hwy 132 near Devine.
5. 1995 Lon Moore, Texas Ranger – Indian Fighter Located at the Ingleside Cemetery in the 1300 Block of Avenue D in Hondo.
6. 1995 Fort Lincoln Located along the Seco Creek and FM 1796 two miles North of D’Hanis.
7. 1997 Louis Ferdinand Huth Jr. Located in the Houston Square on Angelo Street near St. Louis Church in Castroville.
8. 2000 Gravesite of L.L. White Located where Naples Street dead ends into the Medina River in Castroville.
9. 2000 The Upper Presidio Road Located at the intersection of SH 173 and CR 6644 near the pasture fence, 5 miles northwest of Devine.
10. 2002 Richarz Cemetery Located at the intersection of FM 1796 and CR 426, 1 mile north of D’Hanis.
11. 2002 Yancey, Texas Located at FM 462 and CR 743 near the Post Office in Yancey.
12. 2005 Biry, Texas Located at the intersection of SH 173 and CR 653 northwest of Devine.
13. 2005 Hondo Army Air Field Located on the Harper Road at the Air Base entrance on the north side of the golf course in the western part of Hondo.
14. 2005 The Chihuahua Road Located at the intersection of SH 173 and FM 2676, one mile northeast of Hondo.
15. 2006 LaCoste, Texas, Founded 1881 Located on the northwest corner of CR 4713 and the Southern Pacific RailRoad in LaCoste.
16. 2006 Shook School Located approximately 100 yards east of FM 1343 along CR 664, northwest of Devine.
17. 2006 Styles-Ward Cemetery, A.K.A. Ward Family Cemetery Located 100 yards north of FM 2200 on CR 732, about 2.6 miles west of Yancey.
18. 2006 Stephen F. Austin Memorial Oak Tree Located on the Medina County Courthouse’s south lawn at 1100 16th Street in Hondo.
19. 2007 Early New Fountain Community, includes the Ebenezer Methodist Church of New Fountain and the Muennink Cotton Gin Located in front of the church at 2980 FM 2676 in New Fountain.
20. 2007 Biry Bridge Located where CR 545 crosses the Hondo Creek. CR 545 can be accessed by heading south on CR 653 from SH 173, 9 miles northwest of Devine, after a short distance on 653 turn west onto CR 545.
21. 2008 Black Creek Baptist Church 1877-2008 Located in front of the church at 798 CR 660, near the junction of CR 660 and CR 761, 7 miles west of Devine.
22. 2009 Rothe Line Camp and The Chisholm Trail Located at the entrance to the Comanche Creek Ranch on Old Hwy 90 or CR 511, 7.6 miles west of D’Hanis.
23. 2011 Dunlay Located in restaurant parking lot at the intersection of US 90 and CR 4643, 8.1 miles west of Castroville or 9.1 miles east of Hondo.
24. 2011 The Stone Cross of Zacharias Deckert Located with the original stone cross under a live oak grove along FM 2200, approximately 1.2 miles west of Yancey on the south side of the road.
25. 2012 The First Baptist Church of Hondo, Texas Located at the church, 2400 Avenue P, in Hondo. Marker is on the northeast exterior wall of the sanctuary.
26. 2012 Natalia “Queen City of the Southwest” Located on SH 132 N in Natalia’s Historical Plaza.
27. 2012 Natalia Texas School District Located on 8th Street in front of the elementary school building in Natalia.
